The Film Appreciation Club

As a child, my parents had great expectations for me.  “Perhaps he will become the president!” They said.   “Maybe, just maybe, God willing of course, he could eventually become the manager of a local Dairy Queen!” (I will ever succeed to live that one down.  President sure, Dairy Queen, no way.  I just don’t have the talent.)  It was with those high expectations that I was guided through my early life; I was the winner of the geography bee four years running, I set the school record for most books read in a year, (84.  Yes, I know how amazing I am.) and I was the proud wearer of my retainer for four hundred and twenty-seven days straight.  Therefore, great things were expected of me in high school; grade president, leading member of the debate team and star of the Model UN delegation.  Instead, I chose to be a rebel and chose the Film Appreciation Club. (FAC for short.)  Run by two hilarious seniors, who for privacy reasons will be referred to as Mat and Maxson, (You know which one you are.) the club engages in serious and thought-provoking activities like making witty references to genitalia and partaking in violent acts.  Sometimes, we also watch movies.  That is where the real greatness of the club comes in.  We don’t watch movies that you’d expect a film club to watch.  Our movie choices are creative and intellectual and often quite serious.  (Just kidding, we’ve never actually watched a serious movie.  That’s why the club is so cool, of course.)  I have to say, this club has shaped me as a human being.  How else would I know such detailed facts about the female anatomy?  How else would I contain such a deep knowledge of curse words? (In many different languages, nonetheless.)  And most importantly, how would I have made such great friends?  If this post doesn’t let me choose our next movie, I seriously quit the club.  You will miss my presence.  I hope.

This blog is informal to say the least. It's almost like an online journal, filled with stories that I find funny, interesting things/links and anything else that comes to my mind. Enjoy.
